2017 Honorees are Mr.
Chauncey Glover, News Anchor with ABC Channel 13, KTRK of Houston, Honorable
Marianne Elaine Jackson, Justice of the Peace, Waller County, Precinct 3, Mr.
Dennis Watkins, Assistant Principal, Cy Creek High-Cy-Fair ISD, Xavier Samuels,
Airline Pilot-United Airlines, the Organization of Black Aerospace
Professionals and 100 Black Men of Metro Houston, Inc. and Mrs. Shadia
Washington, Company Relations with Career Services, Dr. Cleveland Lane, Manager
of Laboratories (Biology) and the Golf Team at Prairie View A&M University,
along with Shell Oil and Accenture Corporation. The newly inducted
members will also be formally pinned and presented to the public at the gala.
Some of our past
honorees are Texas State Representatives Alma Allen, Senfronia Thompson and
Sylvester Turner, the Reverend William Lawson, Mr. Roy G. Perry, President of
the Prairie View A&M University Foundation, Mrs. Cheryl Fuller,
Administrative Assistant, PVAMU Medical Academy, and athletic teams at Prairie
View A&M University including Women’s Basketball, Soccer, Volley Ball,
Bowling and Softball, and Track and Field (men and women).
"These persons
were selected for this honor because of their distinguished service,
achievement and commitment to excellence,” says Patrick Gray, Gala Committee
Chair. “We decided on this year’s list because of the significant impact they
have made and continue to make on the community and we pleased to honor them
because they are ‘Keeping it 100®.”
The gala is a major
event for the Collegiate 100 since its re-chartering at the university in March
2011. The organization was created at Prairie View A&M University in
1993 and became a national auxiliary organization of the 100 Black Men of
America, Inc. in 1994. Proceeds from the gala will support the organization’s
mentoring programs at Arnold Middle School and Navasota Elementary School,
scholarships to students and other special programs at the university.
In recent months the
Collegiates have sponsored several programs to impact the university community
to include the Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon distribution, Mentoring the 100
Way with the Freshmen, College Tour for elementary through high school students
and Voter Registration Drives. The organization was the recipient of the
President’s Cup for Outstanding Student Organization in 2012 and 2013 at PVAMU.
The Collegiate 100 is
sponsored by the 100 Black Men of Metro Houston, Inc. The mission is to support
the 100 in its four for the future programs: mentoring, education, health and
wellness and economic empowerment to improve the quality of life of the
community.
