Local Mayors, Coaches and Athletes to receive Power 100 Awards
Prairie View, Texas - November 1, 2012 – The members of the Collegiate 100 and 100 Collegiate Women
will present the Power 100 Awards at its Black Tie Scholarship Awards Gala set
for November 16, 2012 in the Willie A. Tempton Student Center Ballroom at Prairie
View A&M University.
Honorees of the award include Honorable Mayors Frank D.
Jackson (Prairie View) and Michael Wolfe (Hempstead), members of the Women’s
Championship Basketball and Championship Bowling Teams and Coaches Toyelle Wilson and Glen White of Prairie View A&M University and
several next and now student leaders.
"These persons were selected for this honor because of
their achievement and commitment to excellence,” says Patrick Gray, president
of Collegiate 100. “When we decided to host this event we thought about the
impact these persons have made on the community these past years and thought it
befitting to honor them. They are Keeping it 100™”
The gala is the first event of the magnitude for the
Collegiate, re-chartered at the university in March 2011. The organization was created at Prairie View
A&M University in 1993. Funds raised
from the event will support scholarships to students and other special programs
at the university.
In recent months the Collegiates have sponsored several
programs to impact the university community to include the Fall Career Expo,
held prior to the University Career Festival, Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon
distribution, Mentoring the 100 Way with the Freshmen, College Tour for
elementary through high school students and Voter Registration Drives.
November 4-10 is Collegiate Week at Prairie View A&M University and the organization has a full slate of activities from spiritual worship, community service, academic to fun on the football field and socializing. The purpose of the week is to highlight the activities and members of the organization. The Black Tie Gala is the capstone event for the group.

Realizing the importance of continuity in programming the
Collegiate is expected to formally induct about 35 new members at the gala as
well. Faydrian Pearson, a junior math education major is the president of the
100 Collegiate Women of America. Dr. Clement Glenn, Professor of Educational Leadership is the primary Advisor and Frederick V. Roberts Esquire is the 100 Advisor.
The Collegiate 100 is an auxiliary organization of the 100 Black Men of America and is sponsored at Prairie View A&M University by the 100 Black Men of Metro Houston, Inc. The mission is to support the 100 in its four for the future programs: mentoring, education, health and wellness and economic empowerment to improve the quality of life of the community.
